Amsterdam (Felison terminal, Ijmuiden)
DFDS Seaways sail from the Felison terminal in Ijmuiden to the west of Amsterdam with its numerous infrastructure options to reach all of Western Europe.
The port of IJmuiden on the outskirts of Amsterdam is an ideal gateway to Europe, especially from Scotland and the North-East of England. Two cruise-ferries from Newcastle serve this port on a daily basis.
Getting to their by car
Take the A9 (travelling from Amsterdam, The Hague, Haarlem or Alkmaar) and turn off at the junction IJmuiden, Beverwijk (to A22). Follow the sign to IJmuiden and turn left at the traffic lights. From the Pontplein (ferry to Velsen Noord/Beverwijk) follow the Kanaaldijk (Canal Dam) along the North Sea Canal (on your right hand side) and the sign to the NEWCASTLE. At the junction of Kanaaldijk and De Geul, follow De Geul, underneath the viaduct. You'll then arrive at the Dokweg. Follow the Dokweg and take the first road to the right (at the Shell station). Follow the Halkade which leads you to the Felison Terminal and the DFDS Seaways ship.
By Train/Bus from Amsterdam city
In co-operation with a local coach firm, DFDS Seaways provides a connecting coach service between the Felison Terminal in IJmuiden and the Central Railway Station in Amsterdam. On days of departure coaches leave the central station between 15.00 and 16.00. After the arrival of a DFDS Seaways ship the transfer departs from IJmuiden and head into the City Centre. The Coach stop in Amsterdam is opposite Central Station, in front of Hotel Victoria, Prins Hendrikkade. Tickets can be purchased in advance through DFDS Seaways at time of booking.
As IJmuiden is a small village there are not many taxis. Furthermore they do not always wait for the arrival of the ship. You can order taxis from the port in advance using the following telephone number (+31) (0)255 - 51 60 00 - this is a small local company. Please note: taxi journeys are rather expensive in Holland - a taxi from the port into Central Amsterdam costs around € 60 each way.
IJmuiden - Amsterdam train connections
Train services are a less convenient method of transport for getting to Amsterdam city centre. The nearest train station to IJmuiden ferry terminal is Driehuis, which is over 4km away. This can be reached by local bus services or walking. For more details on train travel in Holland please visit: www.ns.nl. The journey to Amsterdam Centraal takes around 40 minutes.
